Pool Screen Repair in
St. Augustine, Florida

Half an hour north of our Palm Coast technician - the only town we serve in St. Johns County, and close enough to the truck to be a normal day's work. We rescreen pool cages and lanais across St. Augustine with heavy-duty Phifer fiberglass, no-see-um, pet-resistant or solar mesh — and we look at the frame before we quote the screen.

Screen enclosures in St. Augustine

St. Augustine is coastal, so the frame is the thing to worry about rather than the screen - on Anastasia Island and out at Vilano Beach we check fasteners before we quote, the same as everywhere else on this coast. What is unique here is the historic district. Inside it, anything visible from the street can fall under the Historic Architectural Review Board, and that is a real constraint on what an enclosure may look like rather than a formality. A like-for-like rescreen in an unchanged frame is normally maintenance. Changing the frame, the finish or the footprint is where you want to have talked to the city first, and we will say so rather than let you find out afterwards.

What the housing here means for your cage

Two St. Augustines, and they need different conversations. The old city and the island have houses far older than any pool cage, with screened porches and enclosures added long after the fact, so we look hardest at how the thing is attached and what the slab edge is doing. West of the city, World Golf Village, Murabella and SilverLeaf are modern master-planned building at a scale the historic core does not have - conventional cages, known build eras, the earliest of them now on their second screen. Those are quick to quote. The old ones are not, and we would rather take the time than guess.

Permits for St. Augustine go through the City of St. Augustine building department - and its Historic Architectural Review Board if you are inside the historic district - or St. Johns County's for the unincorporated majority of the area, including Vilano Beach and the World Golf Village side. Replacing screen in an unchanged frame is normally maintenance rather than permitted work, while structural changes generally are not — confirm with them before work starts, and we can tell you who to call. St. Augustine questions we get asked

I am in the historic district. Will I need approval?

For a like-for-like rescreen in an unchanged frame, normally no - that is maintenance. If you want to change the frame, the finish or the footprint and it is visible from the street, the Historic Architectural Review Board can have a say, and that is a genuine design constraint rather than a formality. We will tell you which side of that line your job falls on before you commit to anything.

Do you actually cover St. Johns County, or just Flagler?

St. Augustine is the one town we serve in St. Johns County, and we serve it because our Palm Coast technician is half an hour away. If you are further north than roughly Vilano Beach and World Golf Village we will say so and point you elsewhere rather than drive past the point where we can give you a proper response time.

Will you drive out to World Golf Village or SilverLeaf?

Yes - those are the newest and easiest cages in the area to quote, and they are no further from our Palm Coast technician than the old city is. North or west of there we start saying no, because a response time we cannot keep is worse than a referral.
